Washington, D.C. – – 

The Department of Homeland Security is searching for a missing black laptop that may contain sensitive departmental information. The laptop was last accounted for Tuesday morning in a Starbucks in the capital city, according to DHS officials.

At a press briefing, acting director of the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Madhu Gottumukkala, stated, “Has anyone seen a black laptop? It’s black, standard size. It has a green and purple sticker that says ‘World’s Best Acting Director of the CISA.’ We are asking all personnel to check their work areas and common spaces.” 

The device reportedly contains emails, spreadsheets, internal documents, and “everything we don’t want getting out” related to DHS operations. Gottumukkala recalls that the last place he saw the laptop was when he may have left it at Starbucks during a lunch break. Officials say it is not known whether the information on the laptop has been accessed or compromised. 

Deputy Secretary Troy Edgar said a team has been assigned to locate the device and is checking offices, storage areas, and common rooms. “We take the security of departmental equipment seriously,” Edgar said. “We are following all standard procedures for locating missing devices.” 

The laptop was last handled by an administrative staff member in the vicinity of the cafeteria. Employees have been asked to report any sightings immediately. 

No further details on the contents of the laptop have been released. DHS said the investigation is ongoing.
