MOESBURG, Ok. —

Every Christmas, the extended Kidwelly family returns home to Moesburg at the Grandma and Grandpa Kidwelly residence. Members of the family travel from Pennsylvania, California, and Missouri to the annual Kidwelly Christmas gathering, where four generations of Kidwellys convene to sit around staring at screens together.

The elder Kidwellys prefer to scroll through cat memes on their computers, while the youngest Kidwellys’ eyes are practically glued to their iPads, which they have seldom parted with since birth.

“Nothing puts me in the holiday spirit like sitting down on the couch with my wife and kids, turning on the TV, and then scrolling my Twitter feed,” 32-year-old Sam Kidwelly told reporters. “It’s always great to come home and spend some quality time with my family, whether that’s listening to Christmas music with my brother while we both check our emails, or by sitting down with the whole family at Christmas dinner while we text on our phones the whole time. You know, the most wonderful time of the year.”

Kidwelly added that there is a sad element to this Christmas, as it is the first Christmas that Grandma Imogene would not be there to stare at her phone with them. Kidwelly’s children, Hayden, Jayden, and Kayden, were asked about their feelings on Grandma’s passing, but were too engrossed in their iPads for the question to even register. After an awkward pause, Hayden briefly looked up and said, “Grandma’s dead?”
